On January 23, 2025, the BC Girl Guides and Camp Olave family lost a dedicated and devoted member.
Joanne Stregger was a woman of unwavering dedication, always calm and practical, she could quietly move mountains.
Joanne devoted more than 46 years of her life to Girl Guides of Canada, leaving a lasting impact on the organization and countless young lives. She was one of Guiding’s best. She sat on Division, District, Area and Provincial committees, including the role of Deputy to the Provincial Commissioner. She was a founding member of the All-Terrain Trefoil Guild.
Joanne was also the Camp Olave Management Committee Chair and made many updates that will be enjoyed for years to come. Her generosity, wisdom, and nurturing spirit shaped the lives of those who had the privilege of being a part of her guiding journey.
She understood volunteers and what motivates us and knew the art of diplomacy and why it is important to be appreciative.
Joanne was a talented woman, and always contributed to the different layers of Guiding, in whatever capacity she could. In her final days, she was still handling the administrative tasks of her Trefoil Guild.
Joanne will be desperately missed by her family, friends and colleagues, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her. Her light will live on through them
“I had a charmed life, celebrate it big” – Jo
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Girl Guides
Camp Olave for their Friendship Fire, a cause close to Joanne’s heart.
